sunday in sonoma.

Last Sunday, Kerry and I decided to trade in the San Francisco fog for some sunshine… so we headed to Sonoma for the day. Only an hour drive outside the city, Sonoma is the perfect escape whether it be for a weekend or even just an afternoon. We both have been to Napa (we went last October with my mom and aunt for my last girls weekend before the wedding), so we were excited to check out Sonoma for the first time.

The town square is super cute, and just has such a quaint, charming feel to it. There’s lots of adorable shops, wine tasting rooms, art galleries, and a variety of restaurants. We had lunch at El Dorado Kitchen, which is a stylish hotel and restaurant located right on the corner of the square. We sat outside on the poolside patio (we came for sun afterall!) and had the most relaxing, enjoyable experience. We split the prosciutto pizza (complete with scrambled eggs, arugula, parmesan, and creme fraiche on top) and truffle fries (duh!) which are my absolute favourite guilty pleasure. And what would a day trip to Sonoma be without a glass of wine?! Kerry ordered a rosé, and I had a Domaine Carneros champagne… which is actually the same exact champagne we had the day of the wedding!!! Fun little story… last October when we were in Napa, we went to the beautiful Domaine Carneros winery and I just LOVED this particular sparking wine so much, that we ordered a magnum to have in the suite while the girls and I got ready. It was so fun to be back in wine country with my sister and MOH, and reminisce over the wedding while sippin’ on my favorite champagne. Such a fun memory!

After lunch, we walked around the square and popped in and out of the cute shops while enjoying the warm sun.

Our last stop of the day before heading back to the city was the famous Fremont Diner for a couple of milkshakes (because what is a summer day without a vanilla milkshake?!). This old-school, roadside diner is a Sonoma favorite and I can totally see why! It was the perfect stop on our way out of town.

Great place Sonoma. I remember it well. But then I was driving. My passengers probably don’t. Great wine tasting. Love from the Slatters in Portugal. Will and Alison join us tomorrow. X
