favorite moments of 2016.

As 2016 comes to a close, Andy and I have enjoyed looking back and reminiscing on what has been quite an eventful year. 2016 has been full of some amazing highs, and a few lows, all of which have made it a year to remember! But more than anything, we are so thankful for the amazing people in our lives who have been by our sides through it all and made it such a special year. So, without further ado, here are the highlights from our first year as the Roses as well as some of our favorite photos of 2016!

1. Our wedding

As you might’ve guessed, marrying Andy on January 2nd was by far my favorite moment of 2016! The entire weekend in Princeton was so special; being surrounded by all the love from our closest family and friends is something we will never forget. Stay tuned for a full wedding post coming soon! In the meantime, you can watch our wedding highlight film here and see our wedding featured on Style Me Pretty here. 🙂

2. Moving to England

Two days after our wedding, Andy headed straight to England to begin training with his new team Coventry City, while I headed home to Seattle to pack up our house and get organized for the move (with help from my amazing mom!). It wasn’t easy saying goodbye to Seattle… the city where Andy began his professional career, where we first lived together and began our little family (Roo!), where we got engaged, and where we met wonderful new friends and hosted old ones, all of whom travelled across the country to make our wedding the best weekend of our lives. But we were ready for a new adventure across the pond, together as husband and wife. And what an adventure it has been! It’s definitely come with it’s challenges (putting Roo on an international flight was probably the most stressful thing I’ve ever done… and living out of a suitcase for 5 months wasn’t so fun either), but we have both grown so much from this experience and are so happy we took the leap of faith. Making a home in together in England has been so special, and being near Andy’s family and friends has been the greatest blessing. You can read posts about life in England here, here, and here.

3. Our trip to Paris and San Sebastian with my family

One of the most exciting things about moving to England for us has been the opportunity to travel to new places. Our very first trip was with my family to Paris and then San Sebastian, Spain to see Bruce Springsteen in May. This was definitely a highlight of the year for all of us! I am always thankful for family time and this trip was definitely no exception. See photos from our day in Paris here.

4. Our honeymoon in the Maldives

While we weren’t able to go on a honeymoon right after our wedding (because we were just, ya know, moving to England and stuff), it was well worth the wait when we were finally able to go to the Maldives in June. Talk about a bucket list trip!!! It was the most perfect honeymoon I could’ve ever imagined and such a nice way to relax after a crazy few months. See our honeymoon diaries here and here.

5. Summer in San Francisco

After our honeymoon, we headed to San Francisco to spend some time with my sister and enjoy the rest of Andy’s off-season (and even got to slip in a weekend to Seattle to see our friends!). I ended up being in SF for just about 2 months while waiting for my UK visa to come through, and while I hated being away from Andy and Roo for so long, I loved getting to hang with my sister in one of my favorite cities! Check out all of my SF posts here, here, and here.

6. Launching Cheers from the Roses

On a personal note, launching my blog has been one of the most fun and exciting (not to mention scariest!) things I’ve done this year! Starting a blog has always been something I’ve wanted to do. So with some help and encouragement from my family, I decided to go for it in July! And I am so glad I did. Not only has it been my source of sanity during a hectic year, it has been so fun sharing and celebrating some of my favorite moments along the way. I am happiest and feel my best when I am inspired, and I’ve loved being able to create this little space of all the people, places, and things that bring me inspiration on a daily basis. So, thanks for following along as I continue to learn and figure this whole thing out! I’m excited to see what 2017 has in store for Cheers from the Roses! Read my launch post here.

7. Sister trip to Toronto & NYC

In October, Kerry and I met up for a fun little sister rendezvous. We started in Toronto to see our niece and nephew, and ended in NYC for a fun week of exploring, eating, and hanging with old friends! See posts from our trip here and here.

8. Watching my brother lift a trophy for Toronto

It’s no secret that soccer plays a huge part in our family. And there were many a late night this past year staying up to watch my brother play in the MLS. Not everyone sees how much Michael puts into his career on a daily basis, so we couldn’t have been more proud to see all his hard work pay off when he lifted the trophy for Toronto as the Eastern Conference Champions! And to be able to share that moment with Luca and Quinn was pretty special to see. Proud sissy!

9. Another milestone in my dad’s coaching career

Continuing on a similar note, it was another exciting year for my dad’s coaching career. He finished up an incredible run with a team in France, and then had the opportunity to step into the Premier League in October. It has always been a dream of his to coach at the highest level, and we couldn’t be more proud of the work he did at Swansea and the way he handled himself through it all. He continues to show us what it means to be fearless and take chances, to work hard everyday and do things the right way, and believe in yourself above all else. And PS… the other MVP is my mom who stands by his side through it all. Luckiest girl in the world to have these two as my parents and role models in life!

 10. Our first Christmas as the Roses

Our first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs. was a special one! It was the first time we weren’t travelling for the holidays, and we really enjoyed getting to spend it with our family and friends in our new home of England. See our holiday home tour here.
